What to expect
![]() ![]() Kingdom of Nepal is a fascinating country, the only country in Asia never to be colonised - its unique and often mysterious culture remains intact. Mountains dominate the landscape: of the world's ten highest peaks, nine - including Mt Everest - are located within its borders. Isolated from the world until modern times, to the north lies the Tibetan plateau and China, and the east, south and west: India.
Elevation plays a major role in the climate. In the high mountain ranges temperatures can be cool, and in the Terai (jungle region) and Kathmandu Valley the climate much warmer - all areas we visit. Nepal's indigenous population consists of two major groups; the Indo-Nepalese and Tibeto Nepalese: all wonderfully welcoming people. ![]() The principal cities of Nepal are its capital Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur - all places we visit. Hinduism and Buddhism are the over-riding religions and Nepali is the official language - English is also widely spoken in developed areas. The currency is the Nepalese rupee. The population 27 million.
As Nepal has never been colonised it has developed a self-contained culture and society. Modern facilities are available in Kathmandu - the city has embraced tourism - however the country has retained its pagoda temples, ancient architecture and unique religious practices. The Nepalese are renowned for their smiling faces, humbleness and good nature - they also have a great sense of humour! From remote villages, to magnificent landscapes and a fascinating culture: we promise to make your visit to Nepal breathtaking. The majority of people working for Angel Holidays are Nepalese to enhance your experience and maintain our ethical mission (this website was made in Nepal). Food
You can eat very reasonably in Nepal; under £3 gets you a good quality meal in most tourist class restaurants. We have provided a nice combination of full/half board, B&B and room only accommodation to allow you to enjoy the fascinating mix of Nepali, Indian, Chinese, Tibetan and Western restaurants in the country - choosing where to eat in some fascinating little places is part of your holiday! On the trek there are many 'tea houses' that offer a good choice of Western, Chinese, Indian or local food, so you won't be limited in choice.Vegetarians are catered for.
Accommodation
Accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara is comfortable tourist class; in the ancient city of Bhaktapur you will be in a traditional guest house. In Chitwan you will stay in a jungle lodge or guest house with character. Lodges are rustic but clean with en-suite facilities. Some have electricity/hot water only a few hours each evening (a kerosene lamp is also provided). All lodges are mosquito protected. On the trek rooms are very basic, typically two beds in a wooden room located in converted trader houses with shared shower facilities. Please note this is the norm for any authentic trek and we do our best to get the best lodges possible.
The walking group
Within the group you'll meet fellow travellers from all walks of life - you don't have to have any trekking experience, there's usually a good number too of single travellers. The highest altitude you will be walking in is 3210 metres - the peak of Poon Hill overlooking the Himalaya. This shouldn't present a problem for anyone but please seek medical advice if you suffer from any medical conditions that may affect you to walk at this height.
The walks
Our adventure includes 5 days walking through some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. The trek has been designed for beginners but you do need to be fit. As you can imagine, there will be some prolonged uphill sections but we will be stopping regularly for rest, tea and lunch stops at traditional tea houses along the way. We will walk through beautiful forests, past Himalayan rivers and view breathtaking mountains towering above us in the Himalaya. Our treks are at beginners pace so, for the average person of good health, this won't present a problem. Please refer to walking times and distances in the itinerary. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, usually requiring a light shirt or pullover - you could trek wearing shorts! It is a good idea to visit the gym or train a little before-hand to get the most out of your trip.
Staff
On the trek you will be well looked after. We will have one porter per two people to carry your luggage, experienced local trek leaders, helpers, as well as the tour organiser and 'runners' accompanying you throughout the trek. In a group of 30 travellers for example, the total group size might exceed 50. There will be free storage for you too before commencing the trek, so you need only take with you what you need for the walk.
